Introduction

One problem that you probably encounter is the burnt taste after taking a puff. It is an unpleasant experience that can ruin your mood. But, it’s a common problem among vapes due to some instances, such as dehydrated or burned coils.

But when there is a problem, there’s always a solution. Today, we will share some practical tips to prevent a burnt vape, plus product recommendations, so you can have an enjoyable vaping session with your friends.

What is Burnt Taste in Vapes

Your vape burns for various reasons. You won’t notice the vape burn immediately, especially if you use a brand-new device. Issues may arise, leading to a burnt taste in vapes as you use it.

E-Juice is Almost Empty

You will notice the burnt taste when the e-liquid on the wick inside your atomizer coil is almost empty. The wick absorbs the e-liquid, which the coil heats to make vapor. So, the heater may overheat if there is no e-liquid to vaporize. Once the heating fails, your vape will produce an unpleasant burnt taste.

Your Vaping Style

If you take puffs one after another—with almost no time interval—you’re chain vaping, and that affects your vape device. Taking hits in a row won’t give the wick enough time to fully absorb the e-juice. The result? Overheated, dehydrated coils, leading to a burnt vape.

Using High VG E-Juices

Vape juices with high vegetable glycerin (70%) are thicker than low-VG juice. This volume tires the wick as it absorbs the liquid. If you prefer high-VG juices, make sure that you fully saturate your vape’s wick in each hit.

Proper Coil Maintenance

You must practice the right coil maintenance to avoid a burnt taste in your vape. Change the coil every one to four weeks and prim the wick before you install a new one.

You can also prevent the coil from dehydrating by making sure that it fully absorbs the e-juice before you take a puff. To extend its lifespan, you need to prime it properly. This means saturating the wick before placing the new coil into your tank. But how will you do it?

  • Look at the coil head and find the three input holes.
  • Drip e-liquid into all three holes carefully until the juice starts to overflow.
  • Let it soak briefly before taking a dry hit to check saturation. (Note: Depending on how strong you want your e-liquid, you can let it soak for a few minutes up to 12 hours.)

Choosing the Right E-Liquid

Your e-juice ingredients may contribute to the burning sensation as you take a puff. Since there are two main ingredients in every e-liquid—Propylene Glycol (PG) and Vegetable Glycerin (VG)—you may need to use the right mix to prevent vape burns.

This won’t apply to all vapers, though, but some find high VG e-liquids give off the burnt taste. (Note that it will still depend on your taste.)

If your vape burns, you better check the ingredients to see if that’s the root of the burnt taste. You better look for e-juices with a 50/50 VG/PG ratio. This means balance, making the e-juice versatile in tanks and vape kits.

Try to experiment to find the right ratio based on your preference. It may take some trial and error, but it is worth trying to prevent the burning sensation.

Adjusting Vaping Techniques

Chain vaping isn’t advisable since it can dry and overheat coils, leading to a burnt taste. Try adjusting your vaping style if you want to avoid experiencing a vape burn.

You have two ways to inhale vapor—mouth-to-lung (MTL) and direct-to-lung (DTL).

  • MTL Vaping: Inhale the vapor in your mouth, let it sit, and slowly draw it into your lungs. Opt for e-juices with a higher PG than VG if you like this style. The higher the VG percentage, the thicker the e-juice. This will dry out the coil, which causes the burnt taste.
  • DTL Vaping: Inhale the vapor directly into your lungs to bypass your mouth. Look for e-liquids with more VG than PG if you prefer this technique. High PG can clog your vape’s coils, which can give you a burnt taste.

Try switching to the DTL method or vice-versa if you are experiencing burnt tastes. Observe for a few days and see if it helps.

Alternatively, you can prevent a burnt vape by slowly taking each puff. No need to hit one after another. After you inhale the vapor, put your vape down and let the coil absorb the e-juice after some time before hitting again.
